Hero Background

Helping Our Communities Rebuild—Together

My Mountain Recovery is a local effort created by and for the people of Mitchell and Yancey Counties. We are your neighbors, your friends, your fellow church members, and local leaders—coming together to help our communities recover and rebuild after the devastating impact of Hurricane Helene.

Living in our rural communities comes with its own strengths and challenges. We’re not used to big storms like Helene, and many of us have never had to deal with federal agencies, online applications, or asking for help. That’s why the Long-Term Recovery Groups of Mitchell and Yancey Counties have come together to serve those facing challenges.

What Is a Long-Term Recovery Group (LTRG)?

A Long-Term Recovery Group (LTRG) is a community-led team formed in response to a major disaster. It brings together local nonprofits, churches, community leaders, volunteers, and government representatives to help folks get back on their feet. LTRGs are supported by agencies like FEMA, but they’re run by local people who know the community best. In our region, the Mitchell County LTRG and the Yancey County LTRG work side-by-side and share resources through this joint website—MY Mountain Recovery. Because our counties are close-knit, this partnership helps us work more efficiently, avoid duplication, and connect more people with the resources they need.
